Positive Impacts on Tourism

Tourists have been showing strong interests in protecting the park’s natural resources. Figure 1.1 indicates the engagement of preservation of the Park’s natural resources for future generations. Respondents displayed highly supportive initiatives to safeguard all park variables, with average scores ranging from 4.8 to 3.9. The preservation component of the park’s mission, in addition to the recreation attribute was essential to Park visitors. Even though there are many concerns regarding the environment of tourists, many tourists do take into consideration the importance of the highly ranked park to sustain it's natural beauty. Tourism also assists to preserve rural services like buses, village shops and post offices nearby the Grand Canyon. Although tourism directly influences the environmental state, the tourists mainly focus on the scenery of the Grand Canyon, so there is limited pressure regarding the conservation of habitats and wildlife.

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 5.5 million visitors to Grand Canyon National Park in 2015 spent $584 million in communities near the park. These funds supported 8,897 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $813 million. The Grand Canyon National Park also creates over $467 million in benefit to the US economy. Figure 1.3 presents the cost of tourists purchases on the average of fees given. This vast amount of profit mostly outweighs the damage or cost that tourism to the Grand Canyon creates. The money generated additionally allows every Arizona household to save roughly $1,186 on taxes and the park's support has resulted in approximately 184,200 jobs that are specifically opened to locals.

As larger populations began to travel in and out of the area, the cities around the Grand Canyon have become densely populated. Tourism brought the need for entertainment and development, which meant that cities grew larger increased the need for restaurants, hotels, pubs, and other forms of entertainment. The Grand Canyon traditionally associated tribes and historic ethnic groups regarding the management of the archaeological resources as preservation to their heritage and history. The report shows $16.9 billion of direct spending by 307.2 million park visitors in communities within 60 miles of a national park, supported 295,000 jobs nationally. This allows the locals to have a share of being tour guides in sharing the culture and heritage of the park.
